Jūrmala with kids: loft bed, volleyball and a water park

The houses suit a family with two children. For the kids there is a sleeping loft, a lawn, the river with SUP boards and a ball; for the parents a deck and quiet after seven.

How a family sleeps in the house

The double bed in the Lavanda loft by the window

In Lavanda the parents sleep in the loft on the double bed and the children downstairs on the sofa bed, or the other way round: for older children the ladder and the bed under the ceiling are an adventure. In Saulriets the double mattress is on the floor, and the sofa is in the same room.

A small child finds room without an extra bed; a cot is not on the Airbnb listing, so ask the host about one. The ladder to the loft is steep; with toddlers it is easier to sleep downstairs.

In the kitchen you can heat and cook anything children eat: a hob, a kettle, pots, dishes. The fridge in Saulriets is full size, in Lavanda a mini one.

Two houses for two families

If two families come, book both houses: they stand side by side, each with its own deck and bathroom, while the lawn and the volleyball court are shared. The children play together; dinner is on your own deck or everyone around one grill.

Together that is up to eight people. Each house is booked separately on Airbnb for the same dates.

Safety by the river and in the house

The river bank is not fenced, and the park's boats stand by it: small children stay with an adult by the water. The park hands out life vests in children's sizes with any rental.

The ladder to the loft in Lavanda is steep. The grill stands off the deck; leave the coals in the grill after cooking. In summer bring mosquito and tick repellent: a grove and a river.

The tap water is not for drinking; the host leaves bottled water, but with children it is worth bringing more.

Questions people ask

Is there a cot in the house?

Not on the Airbnb listing. A small child sleeps with the parents or on the sofa; ask the host on Airbnb about a cot before you book.

From what age can a child go on a SUP or a kayak?

With an adult in a two-seat kayak, on a pedal catamaran or on a SUP XL children go from preschool age, in life vests. The exact conditions are set by the park at the rental.

Is there a playground?

At the houses there is a volleyball court, a basketball hoop and the lawn. Playgrounds with rides are in Dzintari forest park, 6.7 km.

How much is the water park and how do I get there?

The Līvu water park is 3.2 km by road over the Lielupe bridge; by car you need a Jūrmala pass, by train go to Lielupe station and walk. Ticket prices are on the water park's site.

Is it suitable with a baby?

Yes, if you bring your own cot or share the bed. The house is quiet from 22:00; the neighbours are in the other house a few dozen metres away.
