Priedaine: the quiet end of Jūrmala, on the Riga side
Priedaine lies on the right bank of the Lielupe, the first Jūrmala district after Babīte. No promenade and no row of cafes, but a river, a birch grove and a train every half hour.

Almost everything is across the river, in the Jūrmala toll zone: 5 EUR a day by car, free by bike or train. Riga centre is 21 km away, the airport 15 km.

Līvu water park
Across the river at Viestura iela 24 is one of the largest indoor water parks in Northern Europe: slides, pools, a children's zone and a spa with saunas; in summer the outdoor beach opens too. Children under 13 go in only with an adult.
The ticket price depends on the day and on how long you stay; the park's calendar shows it. Parking at the park costs 1 EUR.

Dzintari forest park and Jūrmala Tarzāns
A pine forest park in Dzintari with a 33.5-metre observation tower, three playgrounds, a skate park and paths for roller skaters. Entry is free, open daily from 9 to 22; in winter the park lights up as a light park.
In summer the adventure park Jūrmalas Tarzāns runs there: 7 courses, 98 obstacles and a 250-metre zipline, and a net park for the smallest.

Tennis in Lielupe
Across the river at Oskara Kalpaka prospekts 16 is the National Tennis Centre Lielupe: 9 outdoor courts, two halls with 5 and 4 courts, squash, beach tennis and mini tennis. Open daily from 8 to 22; prices and booking on the centre's page.

Golf in Babīte
On our side of the river, 9 km by road, is Jurmala Golf Club & Hotel: an 18-hole course by Nicklaus Design and a 9-hole par-3 academy course, a driving range and simulators in winter. Beginners take the Green Card course; everyone else pays the green fee from the club's price list.

The White Dune
The White Dune is a 15 to 17 metre sand face on the right bank of the Lielupe, on our side, 3.3 km from the houses in a straight line. It formed in the mid-18th century and is one of the protected natural sites of Jūrmala.
It looks best from the water or from the opposite bank, not from the top: you can paddle to it by kayak or SUP from the park next to the houses.

Beach: Bulduri and the Lielupe mouth
The nearest sea is Bulduri beach, 4.4 km by road: a lifeguard post, showers, toilets, playgrounds and volleyball courts. By bike you get there on the cycle path over the A10 bridge, outside the toll zone.
Quieter is Lielupe beach by the river mouth: no lifeguard post, a nudist stretch and a kitesurfing zone at the 36th line. Dogs are allowed on the beach only from 1 November to 31 March.

Ragakāpa and the open-air museum
At the Lielupe mouth, in Buļļuciems, is Ragakāpa nature park: 150 hectares of old pine forest on dunes, the 17-metre Ragakāpa dune and a 2 km boardwalk trail with stairs on the steep parts. Allow about 2 hours; the boards are slippery in rain.
At the start of the trail is the Jūrmala open-air museum: a fisherman's homestead from the late 19th century, a net shed, a fish smokehouse and a collection of boats. Entry is free, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 17.

Ķemeri National Park
Half an hour's drive west is the Great Ķemeri Bog boardwalk: a 1.4 km small loop or the 3.4 km big loop with an observation tower over the bog pools. Best early in the morning or at sunset; in rain and in winter the boards are slippery.
On the way is Ķemeri resort park with the restored 42-metre water tower and its viewing platform, sulphur springs and the Meža māja information centre.

Jomas iela and the Dzintari concert hall
Majori is the centre of Jūrmala: Jomas iela with its cafes, shops and evening strollers, and the beach at the end of the street. From Priedaine station it is 10 minutes by train, 15 by car.
The Dzintari concert hall has a historic hall for 690 and a summer open-air stage for 2,000; in summer there is a concert almost every evening. Dzintari beach is next to it.
